Commercial Risk Factors

1/3/2022 (Permalink)

This winter, it’s important to make sure that above all else, you’re putting the wellbeing of your business before anything else. The reason for this advice, during such a cold time, is due to damage -- which if not treated immediately, can cause thousands in repairs and keep your doors closed for extended periods of time. Below are a few things to consider that can cause damage if not treated.

Weak Seams

With older buildings come fixtures that can become a bit loose over time, thus creating a break in the seal. While this might not seem like such a huge problem, allowing moisture to get into your place of work can cause mold, foul odors, and tarnish the products you rely on in your business. Consider testing your humidity levels inside during the colder months to prevent this from happening.

Fires

Everyone wants to keep warm, but it’s important to understand that what comes with warmth, is the risk for damage due to the things that can keep you warm. Keep a close eye on your outlets for overloading, materials near open flames, and anything else that otherwise might cause a spark or a blaze to occur.

Water

Should we experience a ton of snow, the second thing that comes after an afternoon of shoveling and snowball fights is clearing the rest off of a roof. This proves important because not only can heavy ice and snow cause sagging, it can leak through weak shingles and cause water and mold damage over time. Remain vigilant and keep an eye out for things that look out of the ordinary!
